The last two weekends the Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team had three rodeo competitions, two at Central Arizona College in Florence, AZ and one at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.

“We had a fairly solid rodeo the first day at Central Arizona. We had a lot of our student athletes place in their events. We had students represented in every event, other than the barrel racing and bull riding,” said Tim Abbott, Mesalands Intercollegiate Rodeo Coach. “That was a good showing for us and was pretty exciting for the first day.

The Mesalands Rodeo Team had a difficult time at the University of Arizona rodeo. Coach Abbott stated that the arena is twice the size of most of the arenas they compete in and the cattle normally have to run harder. Sophomore Devyn Sisneros from Santa Rosa, NM did find a way to overcome these obstacles, winning three reserve championship titles last weekend. He finished second in the team roping (heeler) event with a time of 6.5, with former Mesalands Rodeo team member, Betty Pack (header), who now competes for Adams State University. Sisneros also took second in saddle bronc riding with a score of 73 points. With his strong performance, Sisneros came in second in the Men’s All-Around with a total of 252 points.
Sophomore Jake Carr from Saratoga Springs, NY also represented the rough stock competitors well last weekend. He was only one of two student athletes that had a qualified ride in the bull riding event. Carr took second with 68 points.
