TUCUMCARI, NM – Mesalands Community College is proud to announce that the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) has officially removed the sanction of Probation and restored the College’s status to “Accredited,” effective February 26, 2026.
HLC took this action after Mesalands demonstrated full compliance with all accreditation requirements
The College had been placed on Probation in February 2024 after being found out of compliance with certain HLC requirements
“This decision affirms the hard work, focus, and commitment of our faculty, staff, Board of Trustees, and community partners,” said Mesalands Community College president, Dr. Allen Moss. “Our return to full accreditation status reflects a strengthened institution and our continued dedication to serving students with excellence, integrity, and accountability.”
The Higher Learning Commission accredits approximately 1,000 colleges and universities across the United States and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation
Accreditation through HLC assures students, families, and community stakeholders that Mesalands Community College meets rigorous standards of quality in higher education. This status also ensures continued eligibility for federal financial aid and affirms the value and transferability of credits earned at the institution.
The HLC maintains a public Directory of Institutions that provides transparency regarding accreditation status and institutional activities.
Mesalands Community College remains committed to continuous improvement, student success, and advancing educational opportunities throughout eastern New Mexico.
