Mesalands Golf Team competed in the Battling in the Desert golf tournament last week, on October 6th and 7th, hosted by the University of the Southwest at Rockwind Community Links, in Hobbs, NM. 15 teams participated in the 52-hole event from various locations, including New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Arizona, and Louisiana, with a total of 88 players. Oklahoma City College came out on top with a team score of -16.  Mesalands team ended the tournament with decent scores, as the players used these opportunities to build momentum and improve their performance. Aiven Martinez and Xavier Sauceda both delivered strong performances, scoring +8 and finishing tied for 30th place. Malaki Mugia, who did excellently in the previous two events, faced some difficulties this week and finished in a tie for 70th with a score of +24. Peyton Kelso and Jared Olague, who are working hard to improve and are showing some potential according to coach Garcia, tied for 83rd and 87th place, respectively, determined to have better outings in the upcoming events.  The tournament was made to honor those battling and recovering from breast cancer. Every participant wore pink shirts to help spread awareness about this serious health issue.
