Artistic Silversmithing
Students in the Artistic Silversmithing Program learn the skills and practices needed to pursue employment in the traditional western culture arts. Students gain hands-on training in custom designing, fabricating, and engraving of bits and spurs, buckles, bracelets, and pendants.
Metal fabricators and engravers are usually self-employed and could begin selling their items at $100 each. Advanced-level fabricators and engravers sell their items for $1,000 each or more.
Meet Shyla Curry
After attending a four-year university, Shyla Curry decided to attend Mesalands Community College and major in Artistic Silvermithing. This program has given her the opportunity to finish her college education, while becoming financially independent.
Wind Energy Technology
Students in the Wind Energy Technology Program gain real-world experience, climbing the College’s 1.5 megawatt wind turbine. In this program, students conduct troubleshooting, preventative maintenance, and repairs on the wind turbine as needed.
A typical beginning salary for a wind technician with an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Wind Energy Technology can be $50,000 or more. Areas of employment include Operation and Maintenance (O&M), Traveling Technician, Commissioner, Sales, and Construction.
Meet Brandon Smith
Brandon Smith decided to attend Mesalands Community College, after seeing the success of his cousin Trey Jelink. Trey graduated from Mesalands Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Wind Energy Technology. He is now a wind technician for FieldCore.
