Rodeo Team takes second at first rodeo of the season

The Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team recently competed in their first rodeo competition of the 2019-20 season at Diné College in Tsaile, AZ. The Men’s Team took second place and the Women’s Team finished in fourth place.

“This was a great start to the rodeo season,” said Matt Hughes, Intercollegiate Rodeo Coach and Faculty Member at Mesalands. “We continue to get better every year!”

In the rough stock events, bull rider Taylor Pierce from Vinton, LA, had a strong performance and was second at the rodeo. Saddle bronc rider Bonner Voss, from Stamford, TX also competed well and ended in second place. Fellow teammate Wyatt Wells, from Hereford, TX, was not far behind in third place.

For the Women’s Team, Taylor Strohl (header) of Clovis, CA, was fifth in team roping with Joshua Yazzie from Diné College. Jordan Carpenter from Sunbsury, PA, finished in the top 10 in barrel racing.

The Mesalands Rodeo Team will be competing at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, NM on September 26, 2019. They will also be competing at Cochise College in Douglas, AZ,
September 27-28, 2019.
