Mesalands Women’s Rodeo Team earns team title in Arizona

October 2, 2012

The Mesalands Community College’s Rodeo Team had their second rodeo competition for the season at Cochise College in Douglas, AZ, last weekend. The Women’s Team clinched the Team Championship Title for the second time this year and earned 360.0 points. The Men’s Team was named Men’s Reserve Champions last weekend earning 405.0 points.

“We did alright last weekend. We had some bright spots with both Macy Fuller and Mike McGinn winning championship titles for the second weekend in a row and we also struggled in some events,” said C.J. Aragon, Mesalands Intercollegiate Rodeo Coach.

Sophomore Macy Fuller of Clarkston, WA had another electrifying rodeo, bringing home two championship titles. Fuller was crowned Women’s All-Around Champion, Goat Tying Champion, and took second in breakaway roping.

“It feels really good to finally be on track to reach my goal of 3,000 points for the year,” Fuller said. “My goal for the next rodeo is to win in the breakaway and goat tying and to place in the team roping.”

Freshman Mike McGinn from Haines, OR won another championship title last weekend in steer wrestling. He said the competition at the last rodeo was much more intense.

“Last week was pretty cool! Everyone else bulldogged a lot better. It was a lot harder competition last weekend, but it just makes you do your part better when everyone else does better,” McGinn said. “It was nice winning the first title and winning two and a row was pretty exciting,”
