Mesalands Rodeo Team struggles in Ft. Huachuca last weekend

March 8, 2016

Last weekend the Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team competed at Cochise College in Ft. Huachuca, AZ. The Mesalands Rodeo Team had a difficult competition. The Men’s Team took fourth place with 220 points and the Women’s Team earned 65 points at the rodeo.

“As a team we did okay. This was not the start to the semester that we were looking for, but it was a decent performance. We had a lot of student athletes qualify for the short round and gained a lot of points in the individual standings,” said Tim Abbott, Mesalands Intercollegiate Rodeo Coach. “There were some individuals that I did not have on the points earning team for the Men’s Team that gained another 310 points. That’s one of the hardest parts of our job is trying to look at practice and determine who’s going to do the best at the rodeo.”

Coach Abbott said that him and Staci Stanbrough, Animal Science Faculty and Assistant Rodeo Coach at Mesalands, would probably be losing sleep over the decision on who to include on the points earning team, up until the next rodeo starts.

The Mesalands Rodeo Team will have two rodeo competitions at Central Arizona College in Florence, AZ on March 12 and 13, 2016.
