Mesalands Rodeo Team competes at NMSU and Cochise College

The Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team had two rodeo competitions at New Mexico State University (NMSU) in Las Cruces, NM and at Cochise College in Douglas, AZ.

New Mexico State University Rodeo

At the NMSU rodeo, the Men’s Team finished in fourth place. Sophomore AJ Kee of Farmington, MO brought home the championship title in bareback riding with a score of 53 points.

In the timed events, sophomore Hiyo Yazzie of Brimhall, NM, earned the most All-Around points at the rodeo. Yazzie won first place in tie down roping and second in team roping with partner Cooper Bradshaw (header) from Central Arizona College. Fellow teammate Bonner Voss (header), placed eighth in team roping with Tristan Leger (heeler) of Sapello, NM.

Cochise College Rodeo

For the Cochise College Rodeo, the Men’s Team was fifth and the Women’s Team placed fourth.

Hiyo Yazzie (heeler) and Cooper Bradshaw (header) took seventh in team roping.

For the Women’s Team, Kaylee Foote of Tucumcari placed eighth in the breakaway event.

The Mesalands Rodeo Team will be hosting the 12th Annual Mesalands Community College Grand Canyon Region Intercollegiate Fall Rodeo on October 11-12, 2019 at the Quay County Rodeo Arena. The first Rodeo Performance is Friday, October 11 at 6 pm. On Saturday, October 12, Slack will begin at 9:00 am (no charge) and the Championship Performance is at 6 pm. Tickets are $5, free for children under the age of 12 (accompanied by a paying adult) and seniors 55 and over are $2. Free admission for Mesalands students, staff, and faculty with a College ID.

The Mesalands Community College’s Dinosaur Museum and Natural Sciences Laboratory will also be offering free admission for the Fossil Day Festival on Saturday, October 12, from 12:00-5:00 pm.
