Rodeo Team clinches bull riding title at Central Arizona College rodeo

Last weekend, Levi Gray from Dairy, OR, and a member of the Mesalands Rodeo Team, won the bull riding championship title at Central Arizona College.

The Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team started the spring season with a rodeo at Cochise College in Ft. Huachuca, AZ and two rodeos last weekend at Central Arizona College in Coolidge, AZ.

Bull rider Levi Gray from Dairy, OR, was named the reserve champion and took second place at the Cochise College Rodeo. He earned 141 points in this event.

Central Arizona College Rodeo – Saturday

On Saturday, Gray again won the bull riding reserve championship title at Central Arizona College.

In team roping, Michael Lucero from Jemez Valley, NM finished in third place.

For the Women’s Team, Rebecca Darrup from Mifflinburg, PA had a time of 2.9 in the breakaway roping.

Central Arizona College Rodeo – Sunday

On Sunday, Gray took the top spot and brought home the championship title in bull riding.

Bailey Saunders from Greenwich, NY was third place in bareback riding.

Tyra Kash Pablo from Crownpoint, NM had a time of 4.8 in breakaway roping.

 
“The students performed better and everyone showed up to compete,” said Matt Hughes, Intercollegiate Rodeo Coach and Faculty Member at Mesalands. “They competed like we practiced. It was like they had a different mindset at these rodeos.”

This upcoming weekend, the Mesalands Rodeo Team will compete at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ.
