Mesalands holds State math conference on campus

Mesalands Community College will be hosting the 25th Annual New Mexico Mathematical Association for Two-Year Colleges Conference on May 23-24, 2014. This conference brings together mathematics educators from across the State of New Mexico for professional development and to discuss articulation agreements among institutions. There will be approximately 60 mathematics educators and students from New Mexico, Texas Tech University and El Paso Community College

This conference meets the initiatives of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Program at Mesalands, which is to promote student interest and participation in STEM disciplines. Students will have the opportunity to present their own research during the conference and scholarships will also be awarded during the event.

The keynote banquet speaker is Ron Larson, who is a noted mathematics educator and prolific textbook author. Larson’s presentation will be on ”60 Years of Reform in Mathematics Education.”
