Santa Fe, NM – Today, during the first session of the Fifty-seventh Legislature, Senator Pat Woods presented a Certificate of Recognition and Acknowledgment on behalf of the New Mexico State Senate to Mesalands Community College.
Receiving the certificate on behalf of the college were President Allen Moss, Vice President of Student Affairs Joshua McVey, and Executive Director of Operations Mark A. Martinez. The recognition highlights Mesalands Community College’s commitment to academic excellence, financial resilience, and community service.
The certificate states:
WHEREAS, Mesalands Community College in Tucumcari has successfully overcome financial challenges, demonstrating resilience and prudent financial management; and
WHEREAS, Mesalands Community College has completed financial audits for 2021, 2022, and 2023 and has begun the audit for 2024, working closely with the Office of the State Auditor and the Higher Education Department; and
WHEREAS, Mesalands Community College has established significant industry partnerships, enhancing workforce development opportunities and immediate career advancement for its students by growing its Adult Education and English as a Second Language programs and working in partnerships with higher education institutions in other states; and
WHEREAS, Mesalands Community College has also grown a program offering course work to those incarcerated in northeastern New Mexico correctional facilities; and
WHEREAS, Mesalands Community College has graduated its first nursing program cohort; and
WHEREAS, Mesalands Community College has implemented efficient systems to support student success, leading to improved job placement rates for its students;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that Mesalands Community College be recognized and commended for its dedication to educational excellence and its unwavering commitment to student achievement and economic investment in northeastern New Mexico, and for its commitment to serving the communities of northeastern New Mexico as an independent community college.
This honor underscores Mesalands Community College’s role in fostering workforce development, academic achievement, and community service in northeastern New Mexico. The college continues to provide exceptional opportunities for students and strengthen its partnerships to support economic growth in the region.
