Mesalands begins Summer Adventure Camp 2013

June 10, 2013

Mesalands Community College has many fun and educational classes planned for this year’s Summer Adventure Camp. The theme this year is “Keep Calm and Summer Adventure On.” Classes will be held June 17-29 and July 13-19, 2013.

“This year we have gone with the “Keep Calm” theme and there are a couple of classes under that particular theme. One of those is a “Keep Calm and Dance” class taught by Hanna Mericle, who will be teaching a jazz/hip-hop routine. I’m really excited about this class because we haven’t offered a dance class in a while,” Donna M. Garcia, Director of Academic Affairs said. “We are also starting a new mural at Joe’s Back in the Day Restaurant. The mural will coincide with the restaurant’s 1950s and Route 66 theme.”

Also new this year is a “Keep Calm and Build a Birdhouse” class, campers will build and paint their own custom birdhouse. They will also learn about different birdhouses that best fits certain breeds. Other Summer Adventure Camp classes include: Sleep with the Dinosaurs and Dino Digging at the Mesalands Community College’s Dinosaur Museum and Natural Science Laboratory; Kids’ Physical Activity Camp; Introduction to Video Editing; Introduction to Graphics Editor; and Introduction to 2D Animation. Conchas Dam Corps of Engineers will also be offering a free Children’s Water Safety Seminar on June 21 for all of the campers.

Mesalands has partnered with Texas Tech University to offer a Summer Math Academy, June 17-29 from 8 am to 4 pm. This course will offer high school students the opportunity to experience facets of mathematical computing under the direction of some of the Department’s best faculty and graduate students at Texas Tech.
