KTNM/KQAY and Mesalands Community College present the 2013 Christmas Story and Lighting of the Courtyard event on Thursday, December 5, 2013 at 6:00 pm at the Mesalands Great Room. The community is invited to attend this fun holiday event. There will be a special visit by Santa Claus and refreshments will be provided.

The holiday event will begin by Santa Claus lighting up the Mesalands courtyard. “Twas the Night Before Christmas” will then be read to the children by Kevin Mueller, owner of the Blue Swallow Motel. Those that are unable to attend the event may tune into KTNM 1400 AM to hear the story. Santa Claus will then distribute gifts to the children. Pictures with Santa Claus will also be available for purchase by LeDeane Studios. Rick Haymaker, a local artist will play live holiday music during the event.

“We are excited about this joint effort with the Radio Station, as we strive to become a more community friendly campus,” said Dr. Thomas W. Newsom, President of Mesalands. “This is another opportunity for both organizations to give back to our local community.”

KTNM/KQAY and Mesalands have started a toy drive, and are asking the community to donate a new unwrapped toy for a boy or a girl, 10 years of age or younger. Community members may drop off their donation at the commons area in Building A at Mesalands, or at the Radio Station. Parents may register their children at either location. Registration deadline is Tuesday, December 3.

“I want the community to know that the Radio Station and Mesalands are capable of organizing some really nice events for our community, to help our community out, and to show that we do care,” said Charles Morrison, Sales Manager of KTNM/KQAY.

Morrison said he would like to thank the following sponsors of this event: Denny’s Restaurant, LeDeane Studios, Mesalands Community College, Pepsi/Cola, Kevin Mueller from the Blue Swallow Motel, and Tucumcari Ranch Supply. He says they continue to receive support from local organizations. Morrison said he also wants to thank the community members for their contribution to this event.

“Most of all I think we should thank the community for being so gracious and helping us out with this event, especially with the toy drive,” Morrison said. “That’s what makes the difference when you can put a smile on a kid’s face.
