Plato once said “Life must be lived as play,” which means learning can and should be fun. Plato was the inspiration for this year’s Summer Adventure Camp theme at Mesalands Community College, ‘Playdough to Plato.’ Mesalands has a variety of new and educational classes planned this year, including classes for both young and adult campers. Classes for young campers are for ages 5-16. Campers will need to enroll by Wednesday, June 1 to reserve a Summer Adventure Camp t-shirt. Classes will begin next month.

New Summer Adventure Camp classes include: Crafting, Science Day at the Museum, Kids Can Sew Series, Robos and Gyros, Hoops (basketball), Swing the Scene (swing dancing), Renewable Energy, and a Poetry class. Mesalands has also partnered with New Mexico State University’s Arrowhead Center Young Entrepreneurship Program and will be offering a Camp Innoventure class. Adults campers may sign up for a series of sewing classes, to learn how to use a sewing a machine, and tips on hemming and sewing in zippers.

The following Summer Adventure Camp classes will be offered again this year: Step Away from the Nuggets and Please Drive Through, Kids’ Physical Activity Camp, and STEMpede for Science.

Campers and their families are invited to attend the Summer Adventure Camp reception and recital on Friday, July 1 at 12:00 pm in the Great Room in Room A222, located in Building A. Campers will display and present their class assignments during this event.
