The Eastern New Mexico Art Space will be hosting two events this weekend, including a Poetry and Spoken Word Open Mic event on Friday, November 13 and a Creative Writing Workshop on Saturday, November 14.

On Friday, seven guest poets from the New Mexico State Poetry Society (NMSPS) will join local writers in readings of their works at a Poetry and Spoken Word Open Mic event. The performances will start at 6:30 pm at the Eastern New Mexico Art Space located at 201 S. Second St., Tucumcari. The state society poets include Andi Penner, Ginny Gaskell, and national champion “slam” poet Zackary Kluckman.

On Saturday, the visiting writers will host a free creative writing workshop from 10 am to 12:00 pm at Art Space.

Both events are free and open to the public, thanks to event sponsors Art Space and Mesalands Community College.

“Tucumcari is becoming a center for poetry in Eastern New Mexico,” said Gregg Howard, the English and Communication Faculty Member at Mesalands and one of the event’s organizers. “This is the third visit we have received from the NMSPS poets, and the audience they attract keeps growing.  We hope to make this a third very successful evening.”
