7-26-20: Condolences to the Currell Family

It is with deep sadness and a very heavy heart that we must convey the passing of Craig Currell. For many years Craig served the College as the director of Mesalands Community College’s Dinosaur Museum and Natural Sciences Laboratory, and later served on the Board of Trustees as well as the Foundation Board. Craig’s roles at the college included mentor and friend.

Craig Currell helped oversee the creation and development of the Mesalands Community College Dinosaur Museum and Natural Science Laboratory. He built the original building now housing the Dinosaur Museum. Under Craig’s direction and expertise, the building was transformed from “Surplus City” into the curated monument seen today. A fundraising campaign, Dimes for Dinosaurs, lasting over three years secured 1.2 million dollars to accomplish the vision of the Dinosaur Museum and Natural Science Laboratory.

Craig had a passion and love for the museum. That passion can be seen in the exceptional exhibits and premier facility housing the ancient history of Tucumcari. Monthly visitors to the museum are in the thousands. Craig Currell gave a unique gift to students and families from around the world.

Craig was a contractor and local business owner who used his skills and leadership to develop Mesalands Community College and the Dinosaur Museum. Everyone who encountered Craig was better for it. He was a man of deep character and faithful friendship. A leader with vision and the skills to accomplish anything.

Mesalands Community College and the Dinosaur Museum are testaments to the resolve and dedication of Craig Currell. Due to the life and practice of Craig Currell our students will pass these halls and a child may see a dinosaur bone for the first time.

Craig Currell, you will be deeply missed.
