Between March 31st and April 2nd, Clarendon College’s Ranch and Feedlot Operations students were on Mesalands Community College’s (MCC) campus to complete essential classes for their degree. The students completed hands-on activities in silversmithing and horse care. This was a visit of the utmost importance for these upcoming ranch operators, as they stood to gain as much as 6 credits from completing this immersive learning experience.
In silversmithing, MCC’s experienced faculty helped the Clarendon students make spurs. They were encouraged to be creative and make customized designs. With a fully furnished foundry and two high-end sandblasters, the experimenting students had everything they needed to create impressive and unique designs. They did not disappoint, producing various types of spurs with different designs and sometimes functionalities. In horse care, our instructors taught them the best practices in horseshoeing and gave the students the unique opportunity to work with actual horses. The school provided horses of different sizes and temperaments to get students familiar with different scenarios. These Ranch and Feedlot Operations students will certainly go back to their college more knowledgeable and experienced, thanks to the many hands-on learning opportunities Mesalands’ facilities offer.
