10-1-20: Mesalands in the News: Wild Horse Partnership Fosters Real-World Experience in Equine Industry

KAMR Amarillo Channel 4 News featured Mesalands Community College’s partnership with Carson National Forest to foster wild horses. The partnership allows students real-world experience working in the Equine Industry.

The Animal Science and Farrier Science disciplines will incorporate the horses into their programs. The effort helps restore the ecosystem the horses were removed from by reducing overgrazing and supplies them with purpose while preparing them for a home.

“Our program is really focused on giving our students essential skills and tools and giving them perspective of real-life opportunities and challenges that are out there in the world. This is going to be a great outlet again for our students to network with industry professionals,” Said Program Director Manny Encinias.

The program is still in its infant stages but will possibly see students interacting with the horses as soon as Spring 2021. For more on this story from News Channel 4 in Amarillo, click the here and view the video.
