This American Heart Association basic life support (BLS) course is for students who want to learn the skills of CPR for victims of all ages and practice CPR in a team setting. Students will also learn how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) and how to relieve choking (foreign-body airway obstruction). This course will enable students to recognize emergencies such as sudden cardiac arrest and how to respond to them.

Upon successful completion of this video-based course, students will be able to accomplish the following:

  1. Name of links in the American Heart Association (AHA) adult Chain of Survival and state the importance of each.
  2. Describe and demonstrate the basic steps of CPR for adults and perform 2-rescuer team CPR for adults.
  3. List the steps common to the operation of all AEDs and demonstrate proper placement of the AED pads.
  4. Explain why no one should touch the victim when prompted by the AED during analysis and shock delivery.
  5. Describe the proper actions to take when the AED gives a “no shock advised” message.
  6. Demonstrate coordination of CPR and AED use.
  7. List and demonstrate the basic steps of CPR for children and infants.
  8. Demonstrate the steps involved in using an AED on an infant or child younger than 8 years of age.
  9. Demonstrate giving mouth-to-mouth breaths.
  10. Demonstrate how to relieve choking in responsive and unresponsive victims 1 year of age and older.
  11. Demonstrate how to relieve choking in responsive and unresponsive infants.

CE 115-01 Printmaking

This 3-hour class gives students the opportunity to venture into the world of printmaking by creating their own intaglio print. Students will experiment with the medium and create a small edition of their own artwork. This class is open to all students 10 years of age or older, regardless of creativity or experience level. A $15 supply fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of class.

CE 116-01 Tile Metal Cast Art
Tuesday, April 23, 2019 and Wednesday, April 24, 2019

In this class, students will become familiar with the basics of sand-mold tile casting. Students will have the opportunity to work in the historic Mesalands Foundry and explore the aluminum casting process. This class is open to all students 10 years of age or older, regardless of creativity or experience level.

This Easter-themed class gives students the opportunity to make a string art wall decoration, featuring a decorative Easter bunny or a decorative Easter egg. Students will utilize various styles and colors of string in order to complete their design. This class is open to all students 10 years of age or older, regardless of creativity or experience level. A $10 supply fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of class.

CE 282-03 Ancient Chinese Secret: Chinese Cooking

Learn how to prepare Chinese favorites, such as: stir-fry, egg-drop soup, Kung Pao chicken, fried rice, and chicken chow mein. An additional $5 supply fee will be payable to the instructor at the beginning of class.

Anyone—young or mature—interested in earning their High School Equivalency (HSE) diploma is encouraged to attend. The following topics will be discussed: intake process, placement testing, advising, class availability and registration. The HiSET® exam, currently administered at Mesalands Community College, and its testing segments will be introduced. Come and get your questions answered and work toward earning your HSE diploma!

This introductory Taekwondo course is a comprehensive overview for students of all levels and physical ability. No previous experience is necessary. Individuals with past training in Taekwondo or other martial arts, are also encouraged to participate. Students will learn the aspects of health, self-defense, sport, Taekwondo’s history and philosophy, and self-development. Students will engage in physical practice, and partner interaction. Students should wear loose, movable clothing to class.
