Student Safety Week encourages students to make positive choices

April 4, 2017

Mesalands Community College recently celebrated “Student Safety Week” to inform students about making healthy choices.

The week began with the Pledge Kick-Off, for students to vow to have a safe  Spring Break. An exhibit of a vehicle in a DUI accident was on display throughout the week. There was also a fundraiser to benefit the Meagan McCain Scholarship Drive, that raised $230. The major event of the week was the Maze of Life that had 25 different booths, which provided resources for students to help them make positive life decisions. There were 354 attendees, which included students from Mesalands, Tucumcari High School, and Tucumcari Middle School. This event was co-sponsored with the Quay County Health Council. Representatives from the Healing Addiction in Our Community (HAC) organization also gave a presentation on the statistics and life stories of heroin and opioids. The week ended with a Movie Night at the Odeon Theater.
