Mesalands student receives $1,200 scholarship at annual math conference

Mesalands Community College is pleased to announce that Yash Shah, received the Michelle Jimenez Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $1,200 at the 27th Annual New Mexico Mathematical Association for Two-Year Colleges (NMMATYC) Conference last month, that was held at the University of New Mexico-Valencia. Shah also received travel expenses to attend the conference. He was accompanied to the conference by Mesalands staff members, Dr. Forrest Kaatz, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Project Director and the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research and Dr. Philip Kaatz, Mathematics/Physical Science Faculty.

Shah has been attending Mesalands for two years and majoring in Physical Science with an option in Pre-Engineering. Shah is also tutor at the Math-Science Learning Center at Mesalands. He has participated in various math related research projects at the College. Shah plans to transfer to the New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in Socorro, NM in the fall. He will be majoring in Physics and Computer Science.
