Mesalands Rodeo Team makes a comeback in Casa Grande, AZ

March 13, 2017

Last weekend the Mesalands Community College Rodeo Team had two rodeo competitions at Central Arizona College in Casa Grande, AZ.

The Men’s Team had a good showing in the standings. Kenneth “Blue” Wilcox from Greenbrier, AR, electrified the bull riding event and won the championship title at both rodeos. Wilcox is still leading the Grand Canyon Region in this event.

On Saturday, fellow teammate Scott Bevins from Amsterdam, NY, was second in the bareback riding event and brought home the reserve championship title. Bevins is also sitting second in the regional standings.

“Blue is riding really well! He has a lot of confidence and it’s showing in his performances,” said Staci Stanbrough, Interim Intercollegiate Rodeo Coach and Animal Science Faculty at Mesalands. “Blue could win the regional title in bull riding and this would be a huge accomplishment for our Team.”

In team roping, Tyler Pitman (header) from Broadalbin-Perth, NY and Garret Arnold (heeler) from Strasburg, CO, placed third at the Saturday rodeo.

On Sunday, Wade Kane from Ellensburg, WA covered his bronc in the saddle bronc riding event and took sixth in the tie-down roping event.

“I thought we had a stronger performance this weekend, and we’ll continue the momentum into Tucson,” Stanbrough said.

The Mesalands Rodeo Team will compete at the University of Arizona on March 18, 2017 in Tucson, AZ.
