Mesalands Community College has an open admissions policy. Unlike colleges with a firm application deadline, potential students may apply year-round.
A formal application process is required for students interested in credit or degree programs. This must be completed prior to the initial course registration.
This process is waived for students who register for non-credit courses. Applicants who wish to take non-credit courses should complete a course registration form. The form may be processed by mail or submitted in person at the Student Affairs Office. Payment is due by the first day of class.
2. Submit official transcripts
Official high school or high school equivalency transcripts confirming high school graduation are to be sent directly to the College. Students who have attended another college or university should request official transcripts from each institution.
Use one transcript request form for each institution.
3. Complete placement exam
Students must take the placement exam if they are:
- Applying for admission to a degree program
- Enrolling in a writing, math or reading course that requires a math or writing prerequisite
- Entering any program that requires assessment in writing, math or reading
4. Meet with an Academic Advisor
Academic Advisors will help future students select courses in order to meet their individual educational goals. To make an appointment with an Advisor, please contact the Student Affairs Office at (575) 461-4413, ext. 153.
5. Register for classes
After meeting with an Academic Advisor students will be able to register for classes.
6. Apply for Financial Aid
Federal Financial Aid is available to students who meet the eligibility requirements. A Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed at www.fafsa.ed.gov, and the federal school code for Mesalands Community College is 032063.
Students are also encouraged to complete an application for the Mesalands Community College’s Foundation, Inc. scholarships.
7. Pay tuition and fees
Tuition and fees are due by the first day of class. The college accepts all traditional forms of payment including cash, checks, and credit/debit cards.
