CE 270: Sand Block Casting Workshop

Explore the foundry process of sand block casting. Class will be conducted in the historic Mesalands Community College Foundry. Students will explore the sand mold process and experience pouring molten metal to cast their own aluminum tiles and aluminum magnets projects.  Must be 15 years of age or older.  Required materials- Non synthetic fiber clothing – jeans and cotton shirts ok –no nylon or polyester. Closed toe shoes – mandatory – (Leather shoes or work boots recommended – no sandals), own Leather work gloves (mandatory), own Safety Glasses (mandatory).

CE 271: Watercolor Workshop

Explore the possibilities of mixed media painting by combining water color and ink techniques. Use each medium to enhance the other while exploring still life subjects and landscape methods. This workshop will reveal tips and techniques to increase your prowess at capturing depth, shadows, atmospheric conditions, color combinations and values. You will walk away with your own winter landscape painting.  All skill levels are welcome. Must be 15 years of age or older. Required materials Watercolors (mandatory), Watercolor brushes (mandatory), Mixing Pallet (mandatory). Tools- Watercolor brushes, sketchbook, and pencils.

CE 275: Steel Nail Art Welding Workshop

Time: 9 am-12 pm

Introduces students to the methods and processes used in welding for art purposes. Students will learn the basics of MIG welding, cutting metal, and basic metal bending and shaping, along with all related safety requirements. Students will complete a finished sculpture by the end of this course. Must be 15 years of age or older. Required materials- Hammer, pliers (optional but strongly recommended). Non synthetic fiber clothing – jeans and cotton shirts ok –no nylon or polyester. Closed toe shoes –(mandatory). (Leather shoes or work boots recommended – no sandals). Own Leather work gloves (mandatory), Own Safety Glasses (mandatory).

CE 280: Country Christmas Wood Art
Instructor: Barbara Hicklin and Donna Garcia

Location: Foundry Building D
Time: 6-8 pm
Cost $35

Create wood Christmas décor for your yard or home utilizing recycled wood. Designs will be either Christmas trees or snowmen. Paint and design to
match your home décor or office with a rustic farm-house look and feel. Great fun! Space is limited. Please wear old clothing.

CE 281: Design a Website for Beginners

Design your dream website utilizing free sources. Instruction will include: email start-up for site, website design, and source knowledge. Dazzle your friends and family with your very own site.

CE: 505 Creative Writing Workshop

These free workshops are for aspiring writers of all levels. Topics covered may include fiction, non-fiction, poetry, memoir and publishing.

CE 530: Bow Making 101
Instructor: Candy Carmichael

Come and learn the tricks of the trade from a professional bow maker. Students will learn how to make cute and quality hair accessories to go with all of their outfits or professional-look bows for your gift giving needs. Materials will be provided in a variety of styles and colors. Please bring your own scissors and glue gun.
