CE 505: Creative Writing Workshop

Whether you are interested in fiction, poetry, screen-writing, or comics, this ongoing weekly workshop can help you spark your creativity, sharpen your skills, improve your work, meet other aspiring writers, and learn more about the business of getting published. Open entry-open exit class. No fees.

CE 522: Self-Defense For All Ages
Instructor: TJ Evans
April 18, 2015, 1 – 4 pm

This one day training will teach you to become more aware of your surroundings and learn basic steps to minimize injury if attacked. Learn to identify threats and create space. Learn basic standing and defense moves. You will learn how to avoid grabs and develop an understanding of escalation of force. Mr. Evans is trained in a variety of Martial Arts and will teach proper self-defense according to the standards set in each field of study. Please wear gym clothing and athletic shoes. This is a hands-on course. Registering with a partner is recommended.

CE 530: Bow Making 101

Come and learn the tricks of the trade from a professional hair bow maker. Students ages 12 and up will learn how to make cute and quality hair accessories to go with all of their outfits. Materials will be provided in a variety of styles and colors. Please bring your own  scissors and glue gun.

CE 531: National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) SKYWARN Program
Instructor: Kerry Jones – National Weather Service

North American Wind Research and Training Center
SKYWARN is a public safety partnership between the National Weather Service (NWS), local emergency managers (EMs) and the general public. The NWS works closely with emergency managers and officials across New Mexico to organize and schedule spotter training classes each year. This year Mesalands Community College has partnered with the NWS to bring this training to Quay County. Anyone interested in becoming a storm spotter or who would just like more knowledge of weather events can attend. In order to become a storm spotter you must be 18 years of age or older.

An introduction to the language and cultures of the Francophone world. Basic conversation and an overview of the culture, customs, food and wine, and the arts of the many French-speaking countries. A general introduction to speaking and understanding the French language for beginners.

Tucumcari High School Culinary Arts Room
Join us to learn how to make some of Italy’s most famous desserts. In this course you will learn how to make Tiramisu and Cannoli using ingredients found in our local grocery stores. Students will be provided a list and recipe upon registration and will need to purchase these items and bring to class. The in-class instruction will show you how to create these divine treats.

CE 540: Biscotti 
Instructor: Sandy Milakovich

Tucumcari High School Culinary Arts Room
Join us to learn how to make Sandy’s specialty biscotti; which is an Italian cookie made with ingredients found locally. Students will be provided a list and recipe upon registration and will need to purchase these items and bring to class. The in-class instruction will show you how to create these world-famous cookies.

CE 300: GED® Classes

This free class is designed for students seeking the General Equivalency Diploma (GED®) in lieu of a high school diploma. Students will prepare to take the GED exam with materials that are provided. CE 316: English as a Second Language

This class is for anyone who is not a native English speaker. Students begin with conversational English and advance as far as they wish to go.
