BIOL 113 Introduction to Biology

This is the standard one-semester introductory course in Biology. There are no prerequisites for the course, and no prior knowledge of the subject is assumed. The course is offered every fall, and is a 4-credit course (which includes a compulsory laboratory section).  

The course is broken down into the following areas: the Cell, Inheritance and Evolution, an overview of Organisms (Unicellular and Multicellular Life), and Ecology.

The class is supplemented with online materials available through the College’s WebCT system. Grading is based on tests, a research paper, homework assignments, and laboratory exercises. The textbook is Audesirk, Audesirk & Byers “Biology: Life on Earth” (6th edition, Prentice Hall).
