2. Have official transcripts sent to Mesalands Community College

Have your high school or GED test center send an official transcript directly to Mesalands Community College

If you have attended any other colleges or universities, you will need to request official transcripts from each of those institutions. See attached form here. Use one form for each institution.

All transcripts must be sent directly from the high school or college to Mesalands Community College. Do not have them sent to yourself.

Note: Students may be provisionally admitted while requirements are pending for regular admission (submission of all official transcripts). If regular admission requirements have not been met by the eighth week of enrollment, a student is subject to dis-enrollment and may not be permitted to register for the subsequent semester.

3. Take the Success/Assessment Placement Test

This assessment is required of all new degree-seeking students. It is used to place students in the appropriate level of Math, English, and if needed, reading.

To take the Success/Assessment Placement Test, first pay the fee at the cashier’s window in Building A. Take your receipt to Educational Services Center in Building A and take the assessment.

For alternative methods of determining course placement, check with the Office of Student Services at (575) 461-4413, ext. 153.

4. Register for classes

As soon as you complete the assessment, you will be able to meet with an advisor to discuss a plan of study and to plan a class schedule for your first semester.

After meeting with an advisor, you can then register for classes in Student Services.

On-line registration is available on the College website prior to the
beginning of the fall and spring semesters. During this time period, click the link below and then click Online Registration: http://www.mesalands.edu

If you have already submitted an Application for Admission, you may also register for classes by phone by calling (575) 461-4413, ext 153.

Note: It is highly recommended that first-time, degree seeking students first  visit with an academic advisor before registering for courses. If it is not practical for you to come to the College, you may reach an advisor by calling (575) 461-4413, ext. 153.

5. Pick up your bill

After registering, proceed to the cashier’s window to pick up your bill.

If you register on-line or by phone, a bill will be mailed to you. However, if you are registering within two weeks of the beginning of class, you will probably need to see the College cashier to pay in person or call the College cashier at (575) 461-4413, ext 110 to pay by credit card to insure that your payment is received prior to the beginning of the semester.

6. Make payment or apply for financial aid.

You are encouraged to visit our Financial Aid office. Regardless of your financial circumstances, there may be grants or scholarships for which you could qualify.

You may also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at this link. Be sure to enter Mesalands Community College as the college you want to receive your application; You will need to enter the following school code when you are completing the FAFSA: 0032063.  http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

NOTE: Students are encouraged to apply for financial aid as early as possible to insure a determination for aid can be made prior to the beginning of your classes. If your application is not submitted early enough, you may be required to pay your bill or set up a deferred payment plan, pending approval of your aid.

If you will be paying for your classes, rather than using financial aid, you will need to see the cashier in Building A. Your bill may also be paid by credit card by calling (575) 461-4413, ext.110.
