The Fine Arts/Bronze Department is a very exciting place to build a solid foundation in the arts with courses in:
  • Drawing
  • 2-dimensional Design
  • 3-dimensional Design
  • Sculpture
  • Painting
  • Foundry

Program

The courses are designed to encourage student's individualism and strong technical proficiency. The facilities are beautiful and bright with skylights installed in the main studio. The space is conducive to creating an active work ethic in a nurturing environment.
Faculty and staff are dedicated to students honing their skills and accomplishing their aspirations. Each student is expected to develop an idiosyncratic body of work and portfolio that can be used when applying for continuing education toward a baccalaureate degree or in pursuing commissions. They are encouraged to understand and develop their aesthetic values and goals.

The Fine Arts/Bronze department is a stimulating place to visit. You are welcome to walk through the department and look at students’ work. You can arrange to join us when we melt and pour metal. We will enjoy showing you our facilities. They are impressive. Come see us soon.
Bronze Dinosaurs

Mesalands Community College has an amazing and rare advantage: the Fine Arts/Bronze Department produces dinosaurs for the Mesalands Dinosaur Museum. This gives students access to professional quality
equipment and finishing techniques not
normally available at the academic level.

Facilities

Much emphasis is paid to the core courses like Drawing, 2d Design and 3d Design. These basic skills are essential as a foundation to 2- dimensional or 3-dimensional oriented careers.

Students have access to professional quality equipment and finishing techniques not normally available at the academic level.

Students make pieces in wax or clay and learn the complete process of producing works in aluminum, bronze or iron. They learn to make rubber molds and investment molds, to pour molten metal safely, and to chase the finished piece. Students will apply patinas and present the work museum-ready.

Iron Pour

Each spring, we offer an Iron Pour Workshop that draws people from all over the country.  People at all skill levels come together for an intense seven days of work, creativity and support that continues all year long.  The work produced is diverse and exciting.
