Distance Education

Video College

What Is Video College?

These courses are identical to Public Broadcasting Systems (PBS) course with the exception that the broadcasts are on VHS tapes or DVD's that can be checked out at the Mesalands Community College Educational Services Center.  Course assignments and/or exams may be required to be turned in or completed on-campus.

How To Be A Video College Student

Video College students watch videotapes or DVD's of information that is a part of their course.  It is very similar to being a PBS course student with the exception that episodes are already recorded on VHS tapes or DVD's that are checked out from Mesalands Community College's Educational Services Center.

The student will receive all of lesson episodes, syllabus and course materials from the Educational Service Center or the Facilitator.

Your instructor/facilitator may also require you to complete written assignments, journals, quizzes, etc., along with exams on campus, in order to complete the course work for your class.  Be sure to stay in contact with your instructor.

Tips:

  • Try to find another student taking the course (at the orientation meeting).

  • Stay in communication with your course instructor concerning completion deadlines for course work and exams.

  • Be prepared to have to schedule some time on campus to complete exams and turn in other course work.
